White Cane Safety Day
Throughout the world, the long white cane is used by people who are blind or visually impaired as a tool for safe and reliable navigation. The white cane is a symbol of the user’s skills and talents, mobility and independence. It also allows the sighted person to recognize that the user is visually impaired.
The Potlatch Lions Club sets a date in May every year to recognize White Cane Safety Day. We are still working on determining a date for 2019. Last year we had a table set up at Floyd's Harvest Foods on 6th Street in Potlatch on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 10am-4pm.
Monies raised during this drive helps to support important programs like the Northwest Lions Eye Bank, Lions Patient Care Grants, and the Lions Health Screening Unit. All of these programs provide services to communities in our area and beyond.
You can find out more by contacting the Potlatch Lion's Club or by visiting the Northwest Lions Foundation.
